Whatever the product - Hollow Structural Sections (HSS), mechanical tube, API oil country tubular goods, line pipe or sprinkler pipe, to name a few - Welded Tube of Canada's dedication to quality and service is complete and unassailable!
THE CHALLENGE: ENHANCE EFFICIENCY
Welded Tube has gown substantially since its initial start in 1970, in doing so has expanded to a multi-facility site in Concord. To improve with operation flow connectivity and collection points had to be created to allow communication between all the facilities with the goal of achieving increased worker productivity. Welded Tub needed to take its solution one step further; the implemented system had to incorporate scalability; delivering the required benefits of immediate worker productivity improvement while providing a migration path that would allow the solution to keep pace with Welded Tube's anticipated future growth.
THE SOLUTION: CISCO INFRASTRUCTURE WITH MOTOROLA MC9000 SERIES SCANNERS FROM KELCOM
To achieve Welded Tubes goals and keep with there current standards utilizing Cisco infrastructure. Cisco's AP1300 and 1200 Series Access Points were implemented, with Motorola MC9000 Series Rugged Scanners from KELCOM.
The Cisco Infrastructure based on the 802.11 a/b standards provides 54Meg connectivity between all the facilities, and local wireless coverage. Using the Dual radio feature in the Access Point allows them the flexibility to utilize voice applications in the future. With the uniform infrastructure they now have the ability of secure and seamless roaming, through out all there facilities.
The Motorola MC9000 Series terminal from KELCOM offers advanced data capture options and integrated wireless plus a comfortable ergonomic pistol grip to enable real-time data collection in scan-intensive environments in the warehouse, on the loading dock, and out in the yard. The ruggedness of the unit in the harsh steel manufacturing environment, along with its large capacity battery provides workers with a reliable and continuous working environment. Paired with Stay-Linked thin-client Client2HostT software, overcome the typical challenges associated with deploying wireless terminals by providing Reliable host-based preservation of wireless user application screens/sessions, Centralized Management of wireless terminal emulation sessions and mobile devices, added secure end-to-end data transmission between wireless users and host-resident applications.
CONCLUSION
Today Welded Tube is automatically communicating to the host system through Cisco Wireless LAN, and Motorola Mobile Computers where the incoming data enables real time decision making for shipping, receiving and all inventory and delivery needs. Allowing the company to have a greater visibility of there everyday workings; with the flexibility to expand and grow with there business needs.
"The environment at Welded Tube is extremely dynamic, changing at a rapid pace and it is a harsh one. Engaging Kelcom provided us with a broad range of experience and expertise that has culminated in a robust, stable backbone of our wireless connectivity that was extremely affordable."
